You might have heard the saying "the money is in the list." Well, the list means nothing if it's generated poorly. It also means nothing if the quality of marketing is poor. The way an email is written and the offer that is presented can mean the difference between hundreds or thousands of dollars in sales and a poor sales count. Not forgetting the time the emails were sent at too. Email marketing is not as simple as it is often made out to be. Add in the issue of spam complaints (if your list was not generated properly) and beating spam filters, and email marketing almost becomes an art and a science combined I'd like to add another point of view that isn't pointed out much - newer leads will buy more than older leads. Leads generated a year or so ago are usually not as responsive, no matter what you do. Unless you're a Frank Kern or a John Reese. What I've found also is that the more 'salesy' sort of email generates far more sales than a content pre-selling email. Of course, a content email can work well if you do a series of emails to warm up customers to an offer. But sales emails will always outsell the content emails. I'm not saying you shouldn't offer content to your list. Far from it. Offer content to your list. But if you give out too much free content, your subscribers will become accustomed to it and won't respond to your paid offers. The result: you lose money.
