When people opt-in to your list, they are hot about you. They've got excited about the offer on your squeeze page, they have trusted you with their name and email address, and in doing so they have effectively given you a little piece of themselves. That's why this point is such a great time to sell to them. By using upsells to monetize your list building you'll be creating what is probably the single most important asset in your online business (your list) whilst simultaneously making money.

There are two main schools of thought in terms of how to go about it. Your funnel can work as follows:


Option A
- You present people with an upsell immediately as soon as they opt-in to your list. It's the very next thing they see after your squeeze page.


Option B
- They opt-in to your list and then on the next page they see a message telling them that they need to confirm their email address. Once they click on the confirmation link in your autoresponder message they THEN see your upsell.


There are many arguments as to which is the best strategy. Some people say that getting people to confirm is the single most important thing and therefore prefer option B. By going with option A you will probably get less people confirming their subscription and therefore joining your list, but the flipside is that you will probably make more sales.


The option you choose largely depends on your priorities, but there is no doubt that using upsells to monetize your list building is a great way to make money. The 'squeeze page, upsell method' is the basis of many hugely successful internet businesses and if you look around online you'll see the majority of internet marketers use this method in one form or another. You could even combine the two options. Give your upsell AND your confirmation instructions on the same page, or try upselling people at both stages of your funnel.
