As website owners, we all to see our site rank high on all the search engines. There are many ways to improve our rankings and I have summarized most of them in my 2012 "SEO Basics" book (This popular book I sell on Fiverr.com but is available exclusively to warrior forum members for Free by clicking here.)
I would like to, however, discuss today one very important yet not well understood and rarely implemented technique.
XML Sitemapping
XML Sitemapping is a powerful way to boost your ranking in the search engines. Quite simply, an XML Sitemap speeds up the search of your site that occurs during indexing. It allows the googlebot and similar bots to "see" your entire site very quickly, not just your home page. An XML Sitemap file is a small file that you place into the root directory of your domain. The googlebot and others look for it when they crawl your site.
The best thing about XML Sitemapping is that it often raises the ranking of your site significantly.
One particular site dvd-to-ipad-software.com (which I own) was sitting on page 12 for quite some time until I created and submitted an XML Sitemap. It nows sits on google page 1 for the keyword "dvd to ipad software". In fact last time I checked, it was in position 1!!!
The amazing thing is that very few website owners submit an XML Sitemap!
It is very easy to do.
1 Get some software to create the XML file for you. Simply search for this on google.
2 Once you have created the file, upload it to your root directory. The URL will be yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml
3 Log in to your Google Webmaster account and enter the above URL.
Google will crawl you very soon! (that's their promise)
