One of the downfalls of our high tech, high speed society is that people have become so accustomed to instant gratification, they often sacrifice a great deal of quality in favor of speed. While this may work for people in their own lives, cutting corners and rushing through the product creation process will do nothing for a small business entrepreneur but spell disaster. The potential for errors and omissions is too great, possibly misidentifying or not fully understanding the demographic too important to miss out on taking your time.
Product Creation - The Beginning
While I'm sure it has happened on occasion, product creation does not generally begin with someone sitting at their desk saying 'I think I'd like to create something today.' It is far more likely that the idea for a new product was borne out of the creator's need or it or a need that they perceived in others.
Let's say for example that you suffer from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and it gives you a problem when you try to drink from a regular coffee mug. The idea is to invent a more comfortable coffee mug for people with CTS. From there you will likely do some research on the science behind the problem as well as the potential ergonomic designs that may alleviate the pain.
This is all a natural progression in the product creation process, and it is often far too rushed. As a result we end up with new books on the market - and even new product labeling - rife with typos and grammatical errors that should have and could have been avoided. Many of the thousands of product recalls that we hear about could have been avoided as well if a bit more time had been taken during the product creation process.
