Affiliate Marketing - Is it Worth the Time and Effort to Learn Affiliate Marketing?

Now that the United States government has admitted what the average citizen already knew - that we've been in a recession for nearly a year - people are more frightened than ever that their current jobs might be in danger. Given the statistics that showed over half a million layoffs at in the months of November 2008 alone, those fears are well justified. Does the recession mean that you should start learning affiliate marketing?
The fact is that an affiliate marketer who takes the time to learn and hone their craft can often be rewarded financially in ways that exceeded their own hopes and expectations. That does not mean that you should set up a web site, become an affiliate marketer and then sit back waiting for the checks to start rolling in because that's not how it happens in the real world. Instead of trying to earn income online by accident you can virtually ensure at least some level of passive income by learning basic affiliate marketing techniques.
The key here is not to fill yourself with false hopes of becoming one of those people who act like car salesmen in television infomercials. The truth is most of those people are paid to say every word you hear and see and in reality most of those people did not get rich on the Internet, they made a few bucks acting in an infomercial. Learning affiliate marketing will teach you what is necessary to be successful as a reseller of products or services on the Internet but it will not guarantee your success. Only you can do that.
From my personal experience, I can say that affiliate marketing is definitely worthwhile! The paychecks I have received and the constant affiliate payments I receive everyday are testament to that. Take your time learning the ropes, then ramp your marketing up once you are getting profits.
