In my opinion, network marketing is one of the best ways to make money either online or offline, and supplement your current income (or even replace it). However, I've seen many people on the internet say that MLM doesn't work in 2012.

That is a bunch of crap (excuse my language), and primarily comes from people who are simply too lazy to put forth the effort required to be successful in the MLM industry. Network marketing definitely still works in 2012, and it will continue to work for years to come.
Actually, MLM has gotten much easier now that you can market your business opportunity on the internet. The key to marketing your MLM successfully online is to show people that you are an expert, and can help them achieve a level of success that they would not otherwise achieve.
Remember this, if you want to get the most out of this business for yourself, then you need to give advice, tips, etc. to others without expecting anything in return. Of course, this will brand you as an MLM expert & people will join your business by default.
So, MLM still works just fine in 2012, if you are willing to do what is necessary to succeed (which means you need to learn how to market your business online). If you learn to generate a consistent flow of leads on a daily basis, then growing your MLM quickly is very possible.
