Authority tagging is not one of the more well known SEO strategies out there, but it really works. This is a somewhat complex form of social bookmarking.

However, after you've done it a few times it becomes very simple. And once you get good at it, you just rinse and repeat for every new site you want to get ranked. .

What are the benefits?

Obviously social bookmarking is great for getting yourself ranked because of the back links generated. However, it can also bring you a good amount of traffic as well. The job itself can be boring and monotonous, but if you are willing to do the work, the end result will be worth it.

What do you do?

It's similar to regular social bookmarking. You first bookmark your site and blog posts onto your main Delicious account, and then add them to the best social networking sites. You do this for your first, second and third tier pages.

What's a three tier structure?

The first tier is pages from your website, the second tier is pages that link to your site, and the third tier is simply pages from authority sites you might want to link to. Make sure to include all three tiers, because they are vital for this strategy.

So you first bookmark all those pages within your Delicious account, and then submit them to the other social networking sites. Once you have the main account setup, adding your links to each new site won't take long.

However, you could just setup the bookmarks in all the accounts separately, if you want more control over which pages you add. However, this takes much longer because you would have to manually setup your bookmarks at each site. The whole beauty of authority tagging is that you just have to bookmark one page, so it is much faster than doing this individually.

And don't forget to then locate the RSS feeds on each social site. Then you submit and ping them to the feed directories for some further "link juice."

Then just rinse and repeat.

You can do this same strategy literally as many times as you want, for as many sites as you want.

So does it work?

Some people have reported getting as many as 1000 visitors a day to a site that was getting none, largely because of this strategy. So it does work, it just requires time and effort. You might want to get 5-10 links a day. Don't go nuts, because the search engines like link building in a natural way.
