In much the same was as movie trailers are used to promote the latest blockbuster so to can you create a movie trailer for your book. Luckily you do not need a Hollywood sized budget to create a high quality book trailer.

Getting Started

There are a number of different ways you can create a book trailer but one of the easiest is to use slideshow software such as PowerPoint for Windows of Keynote for Mac.

Creating the Script

Creating a script for your book trailer is as easy as taking the description from your Kindle page and boiling it down to the main elements. Try and keep it to one sentence per slide. As each slide appears you simply read out what you have written for the audio track.

The Voice Over

If you do not feel comfortable reading the script you can hire a voice over professional for $5 from www.Fiverr.com. Alternatively you can leave out the voice over and simply record a music track over the top.

Adding Graphics

Add some graphics to make the video more appealing. You can obtain royalty free images from www.sxc.hu and www.morguefile.com. You may also want to add a soundtrack to your video. You can get royalty free music from www.Premiumbeat.com and www.royaltyfreemusic.com.

Putting All Together

With the latest version of PowerPoint you can record your audio directly while putting the presentation and create your video at the same time. If you are using an older version you will need to record your audio separately using the free video editing software Audacity. You can then compile the slideshow and the audio using Windows Movie Maker which comes free with most versions of window.

Sharing Your Video

Once you have all of your material simply covert it to an MP4 video and you are ready to upload it to a video sharing site like YouTube where you can share it with the world. When you upload the video you should include a link to the Amazon sales page for the book in the description. The description itself can be abbreviated version of the description on your Amazon page. Include the Link near the beginning of the description will help your click through rate. Tag you video with 5 - 10 appropriate tags and you are done.

Marketing the Video

Two easy ways to market your video include:

Social Bookmarking: Bookmark your video with popular social bookmarking sites such as Digg, Delicious, Fark and Reddit.

Forums: Join appropriate forums in your Niche and add a link to your video in your signature. For example if you have written a book on aquaponics you would join gardening forums.
