SEO or "search engine optimization" is a delicate topic that not alot of online business owners want to get involved in. Now admittedly, this internet marketing strategy is tough. You see the major search engines on the web constantly change their algorithm all the time. I'm talking every 1-2 hours. So getting your site ranked number 1 for a keyword term (or even on the first page of the search results), can be downright tough.

Luckily, there are some basic things that you can do to improve your search rankings, and that's what today's lesson is going to be about. SEO takes time in most instances, so do things one step at a time until you become familiar about how to optimize your site for the search engines. Here's the first thing you can do to optimize your site effectively:

1) Select good keywords

This is very important. To find good keywords for your site, I advise you to go to Google's keyword tool, and type in a keyword or phrase that best describes what your website is all about. Once you type in the keyword or phrase, alot of results will show up. Your goal is to find the most relevant keywords that best matches your site, and start optimizing your webpages around these keywords.

Now don't overdo your keyword use. You want your keyword to appear 2-3 times for every 100 words on your page. This is called "keyword density". All this refers to is the number of times your keyword appears on your web page. If you try to spam your web page for 1 keyword, the search engines will know what you're trying to do and will ignore your site altogether. So stick to a keyword density of around 2%-3%, and you'll be good to go. Here's another tip when doing SEO:

2) Select a domain name that matches your keyword

This is crucial when it comes to ranking your site high in the search engines. If you're main keyword is "remove software from computer", your domain name should be, "removesoftwarefromcomputer.com". It's long, but to your targeted visitor, they will more than likely click on your site first because it makes them think that you know what they're thinking and that you understand what they're going through.

Now some domain names will be unavailable. You see alot of people using this strategy will have already acquired common domain name extensions such as ".com", ".net", ".info", ".org", and etc. Because of this, you will have to modify your domain name slightly (like inserting hyphens) so that you can still have that domain name match with your keyword. Plus, you'll be able to get a common ".com" extension also.

These 2 tips for optimizing your website for the search engines are basic but effective. Be sure to start using them today in your business so that you can profit madly in your business. If you're an absolute beginner to search engine marketing, I think you will find SEO more than useful if you follow these tips.

Good luck with using these tips to rank high in the search engines quickly.
