One of the most difficult things with promoting fiction books is trying to establish an audience. You want to find potential readers for your book but if you just try and promote your own book you are going to find it difficult to get people interested. Why?Because people haven't read your book so you don't share any common ground.

The first thing you need to do is attract the attention of people who are likely to be interested in your stuff. Here is a simple three step process you can do to achieved just that.

Create a Blog Around Your Niches Interests

One of the most difficult things with promoting fiction books is trying to establish an audience. One way to reach out to your potential readers is to create a blog around topics that they would find interesting. For example if you have written a book on a futuristic apocalyptic scenario then you might like to blog about your thoughts on the latest "Hunger Games" movie. Don't start with talking about your own book instead talk about a topic where you and your audience have a shared interest. Then once they are on your blog you can include a picture and link to your own book.

Link Back From Your Twitter Account to Your Blogs

You can increase your exposure even further by using twitter. First you want to find your audience on twitter. An easy way to do this would be to find people who are interested in similar topics to your fictional work. Using the example mentioned above you would find people who are following Hunger Games related people such as the author or the stars of the movie. Some of these people will naturally follow you back. The next step is very important and is where most authors make a mistake. Don't start promoting your own book. Instead when you write a blog post about the hunger games tweet it out. Then include a link back to your blog where they can read your full post (as well as be exposed to your book)

Use Pinterest to Achieve Even More Exposure

Another site that works very well for many markets is Pinterest. Again do not use Pinterest to promote your book directly. Create for example a board on hunger games and then when you create a new blog post pin in it to your board. Work on creating followers interested in the same topic by commenting on other hunger game boards.

The key is that you want to engage with a topic that is similar to that of your own book. Attract attention first and get people back to your own blog and then introduce them to your work.
