Many marketers who enter the Kindle market focus first on non fiction and there are real advantages to this approach. When selling non fiction it is easier to gauge whether there will be demand for your book and to give your potential customers what they are looking for.

However fiction is a much bigger market and attracts fanatical readers who if they like what you are publishing will buy everything that you put out. If you are currently producing only non fiction works you may want to consider the benefits of branching out into fiction. If you do decide to make the leap to fiction here are 3 tips you can use to increase your sales

Tip #1 Think Episodic

When creating your fiction it can be a good idea to think in terms of episodes rather than in the conventional "novel" format that you are used to. Episodic fiction more closely resembles television in style than it does most of the books you will find at your local book shop. With episodic fiction you break your book down into smaller component parts. So that instead of producing one 100,000 word novel you would create 6 episodes of approximately 15,000 words. There are a number of advantages to this approach. You can write the books as you go rather than trying to produce one huge work all at once. You also increase your potential profits because instead of charging $4.99 for one larger book you can charge $2.99 for 6 separate books. You can also giveaway or charge 99 cents for the first book to get over buyer objections and still maximize your sales on the later books.

Tip #2 Think Short Story

Not all of your ideas will work as episodic fiction but they may work as a short story. If you are producing a short story you should include the word length on the sales description so that people know what to expect when they buy the book, this will help to reduce bad reviews but people who feel they have been deceived. Many people enjoy reading short stories because they may only want a short burst of entertainment over their lunch break.

Tip #3 Write a Great Description

When you write the description for your fiction you don't want to simply provide a summary of the book your description needs to give your potential reader a reason to buy your book. This means that you need to draw them in as quickly as possible. One way of doing this is to place the most interesting excerpt possible from your book and place it on the description. This excerpt should end on a cliff-hanger which leaves the reader wanting to know more.
