The debate has been going on for quite some time now about whether it's better to write 500 words or 1000 words when it comes to article marketing. Both of these lengths can be very successful, depending on the quality of the content. Typically, you need to write at least 800 words to gain priority from article directories and for your content to be considered high quality. There are exceptions to this rule, however.

Longer content works better for many reasons:

Reason 1 - More in Depth

By setting your goal to write 1000 words instead of 500 words per article you're more likely to do more research and provide a more in depth article. When you go more in depth, you gain more trust from the reader and they're more likely you click on any link you provide for them. This helps with conversions and it helps get the right visitors to your website.

You will also be able to better screen the readers. If someone reads your entire article or a large majority of it, and then clicks your link, they are a well-qualified lead. This is much better than if they just read a short paragraph of a shorter article and click you link.

Reason 2 - Better Chance for Syndication

Most blog owners, webmasters and e-zine publishers are looking for longer content. If you provide articles between 800 and 1,200 words, you gain a better chance of syndication. This opens up traffic endless traffic possibilities and provides natural backlinks to your website.

Reason 3 - A Better User Experience

Would you rather search a question on Google and find an answer that only provides two short sentences not answering your question completely or would you rather search and find 1000 words thoroughly answering the question you asked? In most cases, it's the latter. Yes, there are certain circumstances where you only need a short answer, however, many times, it takes at least 800 words to really answer a question or cover a topic.

There's nothing more annoying than finding list of five tips for something without complete tips. If you want to irritate readers and send them searching for information from your competition, just write a list of tips without completely explaining each one.

Writing longer articles and blog post will provide you with the ability to answer questions and provide information that is more useful for your readers. By doing this, you will gain their trust, and they will click over to your website to learn more about what you offer.
