Over the years, search engine optimization specialists have come up with a number of ways to make sites appear more popular than they really are. In some cases, these practices are known as black SEO, because using them can cause your site to be dropped from search indexes. Unfortunately, if you are paying someone to optimize your website, you may not find out in time to preserve the integrity of your existing ranking, let alone improve it.

One of the most often touted search engine optimization methods is to purchase multiple domain names with relevant keywords. From there, some search engine optimization specialists simply redirect each domain to one set of pages. While this may work, to some extent with Yahoo search results, it may cause you to be banned from Google results.

In some cases, domain registrars are also becoming increasingly concerned about what they call "domain spamming". Basically, if a large number of domains are only redirects to one set of materials, the registrar may seek to have your site disabled. As the internet becomes more populated by business owners, the need to ensure that everyone has a fair opportunity to obtain useful domain names is bound to increase.

If you want to use multiple domain names for search engine optimization, you will need to develop unique content for each domain. Among other things, you may want to consider placing fewer pages on each domain, or even using them for different aspects of your business. Aside from increasing your link popularity, you may even find that this is a good way to allow your online presence to evolve in different directions, without having to change large numbers of pages at one time.
