SEO or "search engine optimization" is a great way to get tons of free traffic everyday if you know what you're doing. I admit - in some niches online, doing SEO is quite tough due to alot of stiff competition. But you should know that you can still turn a profit in a tough niche - but only if you have a solid marketing plan.
When doing SEO for your website, one of the main areas that you will want to focus on is keyword research. This is very important. This is how people will find you in the search engines because you are matching your website information with the keywords that they are using to find the information that they are looking for.
You can find out what keywords people are typing in by using Google's free keyword tool. You will have to login to your Google account to get the full capabilities of this tool - and it's very useful. Be sure to use it each and every time you create new content for your website. Here's another tip for getting lots of traffic:
2) Video marketing
Mainly when I say "video marketing", I primarily mean Youtube - but there are alot of other high traffic and popular videos sites like "Metacafe", "Google Video", "Viddler", and more. But submitting to the video sites is just the beginning... you have to do more marketing of your videos if you want to see the best results.
You should be sure to specify the best information that describe each of your videos. Include your main keyword phrase(s) in the description of the video, and also in the keyword section of the video. Plus, you will want to strive to create at least 1 new video every few days. Make sure that your video is relevant, and you will gather alot more video subscribers this way.
In your videos, be sure to list your website at the bottom of your video and also in the description. This is how people will come back to your site after watching your video. On Youtube, the link in your description will turn it into a clickable link. So this will enable your viewers to click through to your site instead of typing it directly in their web browser.
