I'm very active in the forums that I belong to. I think that forums are a great place to meet new people and to learn alot from the members who belong to the forum. Forum marketing is free, and you get traffic back to your website from the "signature" portion of your posts. You will want to make sure your information is of high quality, so that you can get as much people clicking through to your website as possible.
If you stumble upon a forum that doesn't allow you to leave your website information in the signature, then don't join the forum. What benefit do you get when it comes to marketing your information on a "signature-less" forum? So keep that in mind.
