The most common deathbed regrets

The inspiration for this article came from a nurse who worked in palliative care. She spent time with patients who were at the end of their lives.
When questioned about any regrets they had or anything they would do differently, common themes surfaced.

The most common of the deathbed regrets was:

1.I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.

From a young age we are conditioned by our families and by society to follow a certain path in life. We are encouraged to pursue a career that will give us financial stability.
But what if you are not the acaedemic type, what if you enjoy singing and gardening?
To make sure this won't be one of your deathbed regrets, think about your life for a moment. Do you enjoy your life? Are your days filled with laughter?

2. I wish I didn't work so hard.

For a lot of people in our society we live to work, rather than work to live. Most of our week is taken up by going to our jobs to earn a living.
Once we have finished paying the mortgage and the bills we don't have a lot of money left over.

Make sure this isn't one of your deathbed regrets and express your feelings.
4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends

People do not truly realise the full benefits of old friends until their dying weeks and it was not always possible to track them down.
Many of us get so caught up in our own lives that we let golden friendships slip by over the years.
We don't give friendships the time and effort that they deserve.
