Help! I'm Desperate!

Ha.
While these thread titles are no longer entertained as they once were, there is something to be said as to how they gain great attention.
I would have to admit - I am personally drawn into the word "help" myself. Perhaps it is because I know all too well that feeling of sincere desperation when it hits.
It can be difficult to separate the feeling of desperation from the calm cool head one needs to assess a trying situation properly. I have a great group of personal friends who really listen and have stepped in on occasion
to just grab my hand and pull me out of the quick sand.
While the obvious best practice is to prepare oneself in advance of the obstacle, we are not all born with the knowledge of every thing we need to do. Sometimes the rules of the game can change midstream.
What do you do?
It's important at these crossroads to stop, and quiet oneself as best as possible. Try to stop focusing on the problem and start looking for solutions. Expect these solutions to require some work - because they typically do. This doesn't have to mean they will take a long time or be difficult.
Reach out - not for pity or hand outs, but for input on as many solutions as you can find. Take them all in, and devise a new path.
When a new plan of attack is successful, take the time later to revisit what happened, and steps you can take to prevent it from happening again.
