Avoid MLM Pitfalls - Unlimited Income Potential Or Not?

Posted 10-24-2009 at 06:30 PM by bobjack

Today I thought I would share some information about MLM's since it's so important if you're trying to make a go of it in Multi-Level Network Marketing you to know what to look for.

If you have spent some time in an MLM then you know what I'm talking about. If you're new or looking for a MLM business then pay attention since this information was learned the hard way.

Network Marketing, or MLM is really just about direct sales where you build a down line. This is also what is called these days as a "off line" business. It does not matter that the MLM company has a website or not with your own personal web page. The business is still an offline business trust me.

This type of marketing is called relationship marketing or direct
marketing. It is the sale of product through independent distributors to their sphere of influence. Many times this is to just friends and family. With most MLM companies you can get started for under $500, some times however can be as much as $1000 - $2000 and you really do have unlimited income potential. The unlimited part sounds great doesn't it?

But there are many pitfalls you need to avoid and I want to give you some good advice as you consider investing your time and money in an MLM. Most people don't find the path to unlimited income and drop out in the first 3 to 4 months. As much as the up line tries to tell you that it's not a selling business, the few who are successful know how to sell and most of all how to market
themselves and the products in this business. It also helps if you have lots of business contacts to sell to in order to build a big down line.

An MLM company can be a great business if you learn marketing,
positioning, and are being looked at as a leader or expert, these are
all very key points. The holy grail of this type of business is that once
you become successful in a MLM or a home business your time is
yours. You can choose your hours and spend more time with your
family, perhaps work half (or much less) than the hours of your
former corporate job.

Getting back to the pitfalls, these are the characteristics to look
for in an MLM that gets you in a position to be successful, not all
MLM's are alike; you need to find the good ones:

Management
Does the top management have a plan for moving forward, can they be
respected, are they ethical and professional. Do they attend the
top training meetings/conventions? Can you believe in them? Are the founders involved with the focus of the business? If the top management are not top notch leaders then move on.

Quality Products
No matter what, money is only really made by selling product (this
excludes scams and pyramid schemes) you, have to ask yourself if the product is one that provides a benefit to people and provides value
for the cost. Would there be money to be made just selling product
and not building a down line? The company needs to be product and
customer focused. If not move on, find another MLM.

Training
This is the most important characteristic. Even if they are just
using old school MLM techniques, do they offer training and a system for you to follow to be successful? Is there local training and access to the top earners in the MLM? There must be a system you can plug new people into to get them quickly up to speed. My opinion is you must first experience the old school MLM training and techniques before you and appreciate how to truly market
yourself and be successful with a MLM business. But if the company
has no plan to get newbies up to speed from the start, then keep
looking for a better MLM. The other advantage to using the MLM local
training is you can meet the people who are successful, and get some
insights on what they are doing. Form a network of successful people. They may also teach you what not to do which is just as important.

Support
The MLM must be great at customer service, if the backbone infra- structure is not there, then it does not matter how good you get selling and recruiting on line or off line. You will not be able to sustain a successful business with that MLM. Find another company that has their customer service act together.

Hope this information has been helpful to you, and if nothing else
could get you thinking about making the right choices when it come
to an MLM. If I can be of any help with your business, feel free to
contact me..
