I wonder if people who try to develop a business model on the Internet really understand the term marketing, and what it can mean for their business if they chose to approach their business in a totally different, and much more effective way?
To gain a clearer picture of what marketing is, and what it is not, let us take a look at a definition.
Marketing is defined by the AMA as "the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large."
Marketing a business is not pitching the latest and greatest widget business on the Internet. It is not about constantly sending out spam emails to people who do not want to receive those. It is not bout making automated phone calls to people who are on the Do Not Call List. It definitely is not trying to convince, coerce and sell your business to others.
Marketing and research will dig deep into particular business models found in order to gain a greater appreciation for those businesses, but even more, to learn how to approach a particular market, and understand what the competition is doing to achieve success.
Too often in the MLM and network marketing industry, the old bait and switch is used to capture unwary purchasers, and simply strip their money from them, before they even become aware of it. True marketing is about interaction and exchange of ideas between people. It is taking an intuitive approach to earning a living by engaging clients and customers, and keeping in constant contact with said customers.
Marketing and research is the essence of building any business.
