Blog Comment Posting VS Article Marketing

I’ve decided to start 2 small websites (about 10 pages each) in the same niche to test Blog Comment Posting and Article Marketing. I have purchased the domains, and the articles (original content) are being put together by quality outsourcers.
I’m going to give both websites a similar design and structure, both will be well optimized on page, including friendly URLS and everything else Google likes.
One website will have only blog comment posts linking to it and the other will have links coming from article directories. I am still going through all the different options and trying to work out ways to make sure that the test is fairly balanced.
My first idea was to measure time and money against the final ranking and PR of the site once google does their updates. I realize that the new PR update is happening soon so the one after that will be in about 3 months time. This will give both methods a fair shot.
Here is an example of testing paid services.
Articles – Spend $X and buy so many 350 word pages then submit half to ezine articles, a quarter to amazines and the other quarter to go articles. I am not sure if I will use mass article marketing because there will be an extra cost involved.
Blog Comments – Spend exactly the same amount of money on a blog commenting service, trying a new one each time around, so basically whatever I can get for the same money spent on the articles.
There will be an extra hour spent on the article marketing because I have to submit them but I will make that extra time up by doing manual blog commenting.
Here is an example of how I will test manual blog commenting and article marketing.
Articles – I will write X amount of articles myself and submit them to ezine articles, amazines and go articles. I will note down how much time was spent doing this.
Blog Comments – I will look at how much time was spent on the article writing and submission and then post manual blog comments for the same amount of time.
I will be adding 2 or 3 fresh pages of content to each website per week and I will also be deeplinking some of the main inner pages.
I’ve seen a lot of people in the Warrior Forum talk about tests but I haven’t seen any proper results.
Even if there was, I’d still like to do this myself.
I am wondering if I should create a 3rd site so I can compare link exchanges with the other 2. I may or may not as this might become a bit too much work along with the business I run.
I have other websites in the same main niche so I’m confident that both niches will work out quite well.
Does anyone have any ideas, questions, comments, predictions or advice? I would love to hear it and I also look forward to running this experiment to find out how well these 2 forms of linking work on their own.
No need for a control… we all know what happens when you leave a site and do nothing!
