Trust is something you only build up through dealing with people personally. How they interact determines whether you can trust someone or whether you should steer clear of them.
Don't make the mistake of thinking that all Warriors are good people, even those who may have a solid rep. There are many fools out there, I was even threatened with violence on one occasion. Don't forget that the internet exposes you to all kinds of crazy people. You need only read this story about Matthew Pyke to see that - click here.
Back to the original point: I advertised a site for sale on the forum and invited people to contact me if they wanted to know more about the site, including the url. Now, it is important to vett potential buyers so you are not dealing with timewasters and only with serious buyers. Here is a conversation that ensued:

The original enquiry (not exactly polite but I wasn't offended):

My polite response (notice my manners: I use the word "please" twice and the word "thanks")

This forum is full of people just looking to snoop but with no interest in acquiring any sites at all. I just want to check your motivation first please.

Thanks
Chris

The Warrior responds back to me.

Had the airplane rebuilt last year at a cost of $45,000. That's not the paint job it came from the factory with; it's from the 2006 Cessna 176 SP but I liked it so we used it.

Now you tell me why I need to prove myself to some anonymous asshole with a rinky-dink site that pulls in less than I'll make from AdSense this year.

So, like I said, be careful of who you trust. There are people like this all over the internet. In this case, the person appears to be totally respectable elsewhere on the forum. They use a real photo and you would think they are quite normal.

Can you imagine trying to sell a site to such a person? They aren't polite in the first place and they quickly "snap" for no reason at all.

In a way, I'm glad this person snapped like this. Can you imagine if I had trusted them and then handed over the site files and they had suddenly snapped then?

I hope you found this lesson on trust to be valuable.

    Hi Chris,

    True.. very true...

The extra careful approach you take is apt.

They will show their true colours.

Your article acts as a reminder.

    Thanks.
