The Power of Focus

Posted 11-26-2011 at 10:12 AM by CoachLeah

Hi Everyone

For those of you that don't know me, Welcome to my Warrior Forum Blog! I look forward to sharing regular insights and helpful information with you on How to Create and Sustain the Life and Business that You Desire.

I've been an Entrepreneur for over 25 years and have been a Business and Life Coach since 2004. Before transitioning into Lifestyle and Business Coaching, I was a Professional Actor, Educator, Restaurant Owner and Sports Coach.

I have enjoyed every transition in my life (even those that were not necessarily chosen!), and there have been many reasons why I have survived and thrived through many forms of change including: illness, "failure", loss and becoming a parent.

Through every change in my life I have been able to regain success through the Power of Focus which is what I'd like to talk about today.

Focus has more to do with where you place your thoughts than the actions you are actually taking for any given task.

Now I am not going to get into "The Secret" or "The Law of Attraction" here. Those are a part of what is required to sustain the focus required for the successful attainment of any goal, but are not the only ingredients to the recipe.

No, if you really want to be successful (whatever that means to you) in any given endeavour, you have to make sure that while you are performing a given action in a task that your whole physical body, emotions and thoughts are in alignment with said goal.

What this means is that all of you is into it, not just a part of you.

Let's look at Focus in terms of Marketing.

There are so many different aspects to marketing, that when you start to think about all of them, it can become overwhelming. In fact, one of the biggest reasons that most Business Owners (whether it is online or offline) Fail or are not as successful as they'd like to be, is because they simply don't focus on one aspect of their Business at a time (including marketing).

Rather than getting into which parts of marketing are better than others (as they all have value and are important), let's look at how you can use the Power of Focus in your Marketing Efforts so that you can achieve the results you're looking for.

Here's the Steps for Power Focus:

1. Get some blank paper and a pen (yep, trust me on this one), or better yet, get a spiral-bound book that you can carry around with you.

2. Break these pages into sections. For example: "Marketing", "Advertising", "Operations", "Ideas", etc...(you get the picture)

3. Go to the Marketing section, and write down every single aspect or part of marketing that is a part of your business - whether you have implemented it or not. Break them into sections and sub-sections (eg. Marketing-Social Media-Twitter) Get it all out of your head and onto paper.

4. Take a Break. Go for a walk. Have a Cup of Tea. Read an Article. Listen to some Music. Get Some Exercise. Take yourself away from the list for at least 20 minutes to renew your energy.

5. Come back to your marketing section and write down anything that may have come to mind. Remember, get it all out of your head.

6. Now - Choose ONE of these parts of your marketing - Preferably something that comes really easy to you (I'll tell you why later) and then get a new piece of paper to create the action set around this one piece. (for example, Twitter)

7. Now take this one part and write down all the different areas that need to be attended to or completed. If it's Twitter, is your Profile complete? Is your background designed? Are you going to manually Tweet or use a timed service? Are you going to send auto-direct messages or are you going to direct message yourself? Get down to the nitty-gritty of it all BUT make sure that you only give yourself 15-20 minutes to complete this part of the task, so you don't get stuck.

8. Get up, stretch, move your body and tune into your vision. Remind yourself why you're doing this. Why is it important?

9. Now - Make sure that there is no Distractions and that you will not be interrupted for about 1 hour. This is IMPORTANT. Shut off your phone, shut down Facebook, get off of Skype.

10. Go to your sub-list of tasks and start doing them, one-by-one. Check them off as you go. If you feel resistance to this, KEEP GOING. If it's boring, KEEP GOING. If you feel tired, KEEP GOING!

***Yes, you can outsource some of this stuff later, but there is an internal discipline that is created by pushing through your areas of resistance that will carry over into other areas of your business that you should not outsource.

11. When the hour is up, even if you haven't finished everything on the list, STOP. Take another break. Get a snack. Play the Piano. Whatever is still left to do you can either finish later that day or put it into your schedule for the next day. (Remember that it's all about Balance and Long-Term Vision!)

12. Find a way to reward yourself or give yourself acknowledgement for what you have accomplished. Being a Solo-Preneur can be lonely, so find ways of celebrating the completion of each one of your tasks at every stage.

13. Rinse and Repeat!

These steps will help you to not only Sustain the Focus needed to accomplish any task (including article writing, copywriting, getting your ads out, etc...), but you will feel like you have more time and more energy while you are completing them!

By Following these simple steps, you will be amazed at how much you can actually accomplish in a very short period of time. Track your progress in terms of each hour, day, each week, each month, each quarter and each year.

Breaking anything into "chunks" and starting with those things you find easy or most enjoy will allow you to Be a Power-House in Business and in Your Life!

Above all Else, Don't Ever Quit! If you find yourself getting bogged down or discouraged, find help. Create a Support System. Download with a Trusted Friend. But KEEP GOING!

Remember that what you Focus on Expands and What You Resist, Persists.

Here's to Your Success!
