Achieving Success Means Taking Responsibility

Okay, I know we hear that all of the time: “Achieving success means taking responsibility.” Responsibility for our attitudes, our actions, our reactions and responses to the world around us. It’s not a new concept by any means.

But do we truly take it to heart? Or do we hear it so often that we have become immune to what it means? Are we overlooking the true power in the concept? Are we trivializing something fundamental to our success and achievement just because it seems too simple and basic?

One of the biggest indicators of a person’s failure to accept responsibility for achieving success in any area of their life, whether business or personal, is their quickness to blame others for undesirable circumstances in their lives. I know how easy that is to do. It often seems like we make plans and other people or circumstances come in and mess them up.

Well, the fact of the matter is, that’s life. It’s probably going to happen. Have you ever thought about how many times you may have interrupted somebody else who was trying to get something done? You might even know you are doing it, but you justify it by saying, “Yeah, but my thing is important!”

It may be important to you, but it may not be for the other person. It is most likely a distraction or interruption for them, but they are being gracious, respectful or tolerant towards you.

When things happen that threaten your plans, the best thing to do is take it in stride, don’t get overly anxious about it, deal with it the best you can and keep moving forward. If your plans are delayed, no big deal. There’s always tomorrow. Stay focused on your plans, for sure, but don’t get worked up over the interruptions.

That’s all part of taking a reasonable, responsible approach to achieving personal or business success. Don’t blame others for your problems. Don’t make excuses. Don’t let the normal challenges of life hold you back from becoming what you know you can become.

I often turn to audio programs and other personal develop materials from Brian Tracy when I need to get inspired, motivated or re-focused on my goals and plans. Brian provides coaching on a whole series of Laws of Success.

One of the things he says with reference to the Law of Responsibility is, “You are fully responsible for everything you are, everything you have and everything you become and achieve.”

My interpretation is that when you take full, unreserved responsibility for your thoughts and attitudes and for finding appropriate ways to adapt to the changes or interruptions that threaten your progress, you will find that you make better progress towards your goals and you feel more relaxed and in control of the outcomes.

Achieving success means taking responsibility. The sooner you accept that and apply it to all areas of your life, the more effective you will be ... in all areas of your life.

Seems we have come to accept "excuses" everywhere we turn. Thanks for reminding me that I am responsible and need to own it and then find the solution... good job!

Thanks, Andrew and bellabell, for reading and commenting! I appreciate it very much.

I think it is human nature to place blame or make excuses - it's in our human nature to look for the easy way out. But achievers overcome that challenge, take personal responsibility and earn the resulting rewards!

Best of Internet Marketing success to both of you. Thanks again!
