The rise in popularity of social networking sites is a phenomenon that has been well documented. The numbers are huge with no end in sight. Along with face book some of the major players are: You tube, 100,000,000 monthly viewers, Myspace, 54,100.000 per month, Digg, 36,000,000. Facebook is by far the largest with 200,000,000, a 100% increase in 8 months. It has been reported that there are more people using social sites than E-mail.
This is truly a cyber age we live in. The more technology produced the more it is used. A large population of young people have access to computers, rather than cars, and keeping connections with friends may be easier on-line.
There are considered two types of networks in the social networking service realm, internal, or I.S.N., and external, or E.S.N. Face book is and You tube are considered to be an E.S.N.Their rise in popularity also has something to do with cell phone technology. Access to these sites from a mobile phone has exploded their use. Everything from basic chat to information gathering to directions.
An I.S.N. is more like a Intra net office network within the same company. It appears to me that forums as well are more of an I.S.N. for members, but I may be wrong. Either way most users of Warrior are a tad more articulate and would like to make a good post rather than a 140 word, "I'm at the lake and it's cool", every ten minutes. The short attention grabbing twitter post is popular because of children primarily. Adults seem to like real stories, with a plot, and the computer doesn't seem to lend itself to posting novels. Or maybe it's a social trend thats destroying our ability to pay attention longer than 30 seconds. I recently talked to my son while on a "road trip". He was driving and engaged, but could not seem to find the words to express this complicated subject matter. So I noticed he began to re-state what he heard others say about it. I really hope I'm wrong about this, I hope that he will become more and more articulate with his own ideas conglomerated from others.
