Link building SEO myth - Stop the Lies

Posted 11-04-2009 at 09:28 AM by Daniel McGonagle

There’s a lot of talk in marketing forums, webmaster forums and of course, sales pages, that mention how getting bad backlinks can cause your site to get banned de-indexed, sand-boxed etc…
This is so dead wrong and defies common sense…
Look at it this way, if getting backlinks from “bad places” could cause your site harm then wouldn’t your competitors be able to figure this out and quickly make your site go “bye-bye”?
So, if you build a purely white-hat site with quality backlinks from trusted domains and have 100% unique content on your site, that STILL leaves you vulnerable to penalties form the search engines if you or someone else gets backlinks from bad neighborhoods or from spammy sites?
If that’s were the case then nobody is safe and it doesn’t matter what you do for link building because you’ll always end up with the possibility of getting kicked out of the SERPs due to an envious and unscrupulous competitor?
No, not gonna happen…
What could hurt you is if you linked out TO bad sites, neighborhoods and what-not…
Had to post this, even if if never gets read because it ticks me off when I see lies like this being spread to give newbie webmasters fear-compulsion to buy or try something new, like a new ebook, product, service etc…
