After starting and studying online businesses for over 3 years I was amazed at the facts that 95% fail to make a profit loosing sometimes $1000s for the owners.
Is it that people think online business is easier than offline and people in cyber space have no brains and can’t wait to throw there money at them.
I think that people need to start to understand they will need to do an apprentice ship in online marketing.
Perhaps the best place to learn the ropes is joining an affiliate program so all you got to do is to learn the marketing side.
All the website and production of the product is taken care of. If you join a good affiliate program all the sales material is done as well so all you have to do is learn the art of driving traffic i.e. sending people to a sales page.
But this you will need to learn from someone who has been there made the mistakes and has built a successful online business. People need to understand there will be a price to pay. Sometimes this is only time more so than money, but you can easily spend a fortune if you’re not careful and if you’re easily sucked in.
The best bet is take your time and learn the tricks, notice how marketer market their products how do they drive traffic, not what their marketing. I would suggest finding your self a good mentor, someone that knows the game inside out, someone with a good track record and has a good online following.
The mentors I like are the ones that amaze you with how simple but powerful their secrets are. This will all take time you will have to do your apprenticeship.
If you want to market someone else’s product from your own site, start with a blog (See Dave Orchard .com) this is a friendlier way to market. Plus it is more interactive, you can add things and you friends and customers can comment. You can build up your own loyal following.
So to sum up:
1) Start with one good affiliate program, get that one working first.
2) Watch how people MARKET their product, not what they are marketing.
3) Spend time learning how to drive traffic, get this right and you can write your own cheque.
4) If you want to start a web page use a blog, Wordpress or Blogger are a good place to start.

Ya, really, the biggest thing about affiliate marketing is just meeting a customer' needs wih a great product.
If you can follow the basic formula of Great Product + Laser guided Traffic= Lasting Standard, then anyone can make money for years to come.
Whether you have an online business or a brick and mortar one, you just need to keep meeting people's needs. If you can do that, then you will always have business.Posted 02-25-2009 at 04:41 AM by Affiliate Juggernaut
