Making Article Marketing Work

What’s article marketing, you ask? Due to quirks in the English language, it can mean either the marketing of articles or marketing through articles. In this case, it is the latter definition. Marketing via the written word is perhaps the second oldest form of trying to convince someone to buy something, second to the face-to-face spoken word of course. The use of articles has long been a staple of advertising.

In our digital age, it may seem like pictures, animations, and videos are the preferred media for advertising. Far from it, text articles are actually a vital component of advertising and marketing online. The technical advantages of text –being of small size, and being easy to transmit – make it an incredibly versatile advertising tool. Even with personal Internet connections growing faster and more capable of massive transfers of data, text is still the fastest to load, and even live streaming cannot compare to its speed.

Article marketing is also far easier to produce than audio, video, or animated ads. You do not need recording tools, lengthy file uploads, compression and conversion tools. All you need is a writer of reasonable skill. It may not be visual, interactive, or immersive, but the end result can be even greater. The written word gives people more time to find the nuances and mull over the presented ideas. Whereas other, more active media bombard them with information, most of which goes right over their heads, text can be read at one’s own pace, maximizing data presentation and absorption.

A good writer can elicit both emotional and logical responses, depending on the type of product or service and style. Article marketing is easy to mold to match pressing needs, making it versatile and flexible. With the right words, you can strike chords in your customers and appeal to them, making them more likely to believe what you’re pushing. An ethical dilemma can arise though: Will you be writing truthfully, or will you be binding the truth a little or maybe more than a little? If you are hiring a writer, make sure to make your intentions clear or you could have a problem on your hands.

There are also many pitfalls to be wary of when using article marketing. At times textual descriptions can be cumbersome and not very clear, so it is best to present these articles with pictures or diagrams as needed. Not everyone is a reader, and less and less people are taking the time to read, which can make this technique less effective. Unlike visual images, text is very language-sensitive, meaning that only those proficient with the chosen language can understand the texts. Other problems concerning style like long-windedness, over-flamboyance, grammar, and vocabulary also come into the fray.

At its apex, article marketing is used alongside other forms of advertising. The multi-headed approach makes it possible to appeal and get to people of different inclinations. Of course, there is little that marketing can really do if you have a less-than-acceptable product or service, right?
