Hello guys
Sad month for me.
And really disappointed and frustrated. Scammers really need to get a life!
5 week back I been on craigslist to look and some mac laptops that were for sell looking for some for the online marking business. I stumbled across one that was a comfortable pricing.$800.00. So I began talking to the guy seemed nice works in the ER all day and really interested in me buying the laptop. So I made a deal with him that I pay half and he sends the laptop to me. First he gave me a bank account number for me to send the money. So I went and done so but for some reason the money couldn't get through. So then he said send me some money on money order. And he'll be sending out the laptop. Of course I got his number but no one was ever picking up agin he says im busy all the time I work in the ER all day. So I send him the money order with USPS with the signature confirmation from the delivery. Week passes I got an email from him saying he got the money and shipped out the package.
Its been almost 6 weeks no package and no emails. I sent that bastard over 100 emails and no response I talked to the police they said we can't do anything about it. Even if its 400 still in this time around thats some good money. I still have some of his information if anyone know anything on how to find people like these please let me know. Scammer have nothing better to do then just take peoples money it makes me really mad.
I might even put some cash in if you help me find the guy. Please if you know anything let me know
Thanks for your time,
-Ernest-

Hey Ernest,
I am so sorry to hear that this happened to you! Unfortunately, it's really common with Craigslist, and if you're not buying locally, there isn't much to do.
When I was listing big ticket items on CL, (like a wide-screen tv for $1000) I would get people from all over the world saying that they would send me money orders and I just needed to ship them the product. Usually what happens in this case is that the seller ships the product only to learn later that the money order is a fraud.
Looks like you got the reverse scam. Unfortunately, since you sent a money order, instead of a check or using paypal/credit card, it's going to be really hard to track that person down. Sometimes just by googling a person's email address you might get other information about them: forums they've posted in, or other contact information. You *might* be able to get their real name from their ISP, (whoever their email is through) but it would take a really long time, and chances are, he might have used a fake name when signing up for an account, (like hotmail or yahoo)
If you have his phone number, you could do a reverse phone look-up, or google it to try and get an address, but if he isn't near you, and you're not willing to fly out there and confront him, (or his PO box) it might be a lost cause.
I'm sorry I can't be of more help, but think of it as a hard lesson learned, and that it wasn't for the full amount.
And...ALWAYS DEAL LOCALLY when purchasing large ticket items on Craigslist. Always.
Edit: noticed you have a bank account number...figure out the routing number of the bank (the first group of digits) and you can contact them. It might be a fake or closed account, but it never hurts to try!Posted 02-22-2009 at 04:54 PM by queenbuzzy
