What is the Point of Writing an eBook If You Cannot Make Any Money Selling It?

Right now, in bedrooms across the world, people like you and me are sitting in front of blank computer screens. These people desperately want to make some extra money by writing and publishing their own eBook. Are they nuts? No, far from it. There is great money to be made by creating and publishing information products in the form of eBooks.
The dilemma faced by most people is that they want to write about something that interests them. At some level, that makes sense. Who'd want to sit in front of a computer for hours and write about something that's boring or otherwise of little interest to them? They wouldn't.
So you have to make a decision. After all, what is the point of writing an eBook if you cannot make any money selling it? Sure, it's possible that there are other people who share your interest in whatever topic you choose to concentrate on making the topic of your eBook. But unless you go into the process with a very clear understanding of what exactly people want information about, it's less likely that you'll make any money. Now, if you become famous or do something amazing, then you can write about yourself and your experiences and people might be interested in buying that. But until then, you definitely want to stick with writing about what people are interested in.
Here's your homework assignment. Start visiting the Google Trends web page. See what people are searching for, and what they're interested in. Think about the type of eBook you can create that either solves a problem for these people, or that helps them better understand something that they're already interested in learning more about. That's the key to success--not merely writing about what you are personally interested in. Never forget that.
