Twitter Suspension

Posted 07-07-2009 at 01:19 PM by FindItFreeLive

Imagine my horror.

Here I am tweeting away like any good Twitterbird would do when suddenly I read those dreaded words.

“Account Suspended”

I’ve spent the last 6 months building my branding name on Twitter and the last thing I want to see is any words that would indicate the idea of a Twitter suspension.

I quickly reviewed my activities to determine what it was that I had done wrong.

* Have I spammed people?
Nope. Simply communicated with people related to topics that they were interested in hearing about. I’ve probably received 2 or 3 tweets about unappreciated spam since January, though I think it was more the case of people not knowing what spam actually is rather than me “spamming” them. Till now, Twitter appears to have felt the same way as I had not been suspended. Perhaps they changed their mind?

* Have I been offensive?
Again, I don’t think so for the most part. There have been some interesting twists in certain conversations, but overall I’ve built relationships while avoiding the “direct sale” approach. After all, I understand that people don’t want to be sold and one of the quickest ways to get kicked off Twitter is for a massive amount of people to block you. Could this be a campaign to rid the Twitter sphere of healthy chocolate?

* Have I over tweeted my personal link?
I’ll admit to having a mission on Twitter to let people know about these chocolates which just had medical scientific white papers released about them. However, for the most part I have combined this with many other tweets that I do. Until yesterday when I started a very aggressive TweetLater campaign. Did I overstep my bounds?

Within 24 hours I was looking at the answer to the problem. Fortunately my Twitter suspension had nothing to do with me, and everything to do with human error. Once it was discovered affected accounts were promptly restored and I was once again able to return to tweeting my tweeters.

While this story does have a happy ending, beware to follow Twitter rules and regulations or your own success might not be quite so positive. Twitter is a powerful tool to use, but if abused you might find yourself locked out of all your effort to create and build your account. And that, would be a Twitter horror story of the worst kind.
