I love the idea of the viral nature of social media. And everyone and their uncle is convinced that social media will provide the next wave of clients and customers.
Unfortunately, there are also nuances that make social media marketing time consuming and potentially less cost effective than other means. I say potentially because as Internet marketers who cut their teeth before the advent of Twitter, Facebook and the now less than desirable MySpace, we were raised on PPC traffic and joint venture partnerships – almost instantaneous readership.
Social media requires more finesse and interaction, less jargon and less sales. Users of social media expect to be there to talk with friends and family about their lives and the little things that happen every day. No one is their to talk about brands.
