The following is an excerpt from a supliment I wrote in the series, How To Pull Money Out Of Thin Air.
It shows just one way to use the information in parts 1-6 of my Warrior Forum Blog, in a thinking out of the box way.
I have a friend who does this in his business and it would work for anyone else who has a local directory.
---------------------------------------
You have, in all likelihood, seen discount programs that were sold by school kids to the public in school fund raisers. These programs consist of different offers, however, they all boil down to two things. They raise money for the school or some other organization and they bring business to local merchants.
I've seen discount cards where you pay the student $X for the card and the card is good for a X% discount for everything in the mall or at selected stores all over town. Also they sell coupon books. Each page is good for a discount or buy one get one free offer. Typically the discount coupon book has tear out coupons that you carry into the merchant for your free offer or discount.
The list of offers goes on but by the above examples I think you get the point. The main point I'm trying to get across is that merchants are willing to give something up in exchange for advertising and schools are willing to include things in their fund raising to help the local merchants get business as long as it also helps the school.
Now let's join How To Pull Money Out Of Thin Air Volume I to How to Pull Money Out Of Thin Air Volume II. What are you selling in Volume I? You are selling web page advertising to merchants. What are we talking about in Volume II? We are talking about selling your products and services using School's and other types of organization's fund raisers.
It should be coming together for you about now. Set the fund raiser up to sell the advertising. Have your website ready to go. Whether you have a directory script in place or you are building the websites one at a time. Have everything ready to go and present your fund raiser deal to the school.
Be sure that your website already has some ads up. These can be real ads for a few merchants in town or “fake” ads “for example only”. The reason for this is so the merchants the students approach will have something to see if they go to your site.
As an extra added motivation you might want to go to the biggest business in town and offer the owner a free ad. When other business owners see it they will want to jump on board. After you get everything set up, you don't really need to present your advertising offer to the businesses in town. Leave that up to the students.
How can community minded merchants resist the girls and boys when they show up with a nice little package explaining the school's Advertising fund raiser to local merchants?
There is one reason you might want to do this where you do approach the merchants yourself. If you want to do the selling for whatever reason. (some people really do like to sell) then you make a deal with the person in charge of fund raising that for every sale you make the school or other organization gets a cut of the money.
Why on earth would you want to do that? Why would you want to give a percentage of the money away if you are doing all of the selling?
Besides the fact that you are a very nice person who loves to help out the causes in the community, this is a very persuasive sales point for you to use with the business owners.
Para Los Ninos! In Spanish that means, For the children, and it is a strong motivator. The merchant gets a beautiful certificate to hang in his shop, the school gets help. And you have a nice little piece of change to start your “real Internet business.”
Oh, I forgot. This was getting so good I forgot we are doing the Directory thing just to raise some funds for our investment in our real online business. Or are we?
In conclusion, joining How To Pull Money Out Of Thin Air Volume I and How To Pull Money Out Of Thin Air Volume II is a win/win proposition for all involved. The school gets the funds for for the team equipment. The merchant gets a website proclaiming him as a sponsor of the team and supporter of the school and he is presented with a plaque to hang in his store thanking him from the tennis or base ball or cheerleader team of the school.
And by the way, you get your percentage which you have worked out with the school for putting all of this together.
Above is only a couple of ways to use Volume I and Volume II together. Use your imagination and you will come up with several different ways to do this.
My Best To You,
George Wright
