THE BIGGER, THE BETTER!!!!!

Posted 04-25-2011 at 03:40 PM by Gill

We're talking about price here.

Over the holiday weekend I decided to buy some new garden furniture. We had moved house a year ago and with the promise of some fairly decent weather on its way, we went to the internet to hunt the perfect product for our garden.

What I thought would take an hour or so to find and buy what I wanted, actually took almost 2 days to first of all, find the product that ticked all my boxes and then to find the "right seller".

When shortlisting the products I wanted, the main issue was poor websites, lack of info, lack of choice and huge differential in prices.

I wanted a high quality product, one that will last my family many warm summers and one that looks and feels like I got my moneys worth.

One major bone of contention was the PRICE.

When making the shortlist I was removing products that were being marketed using similar keywords when they were way cheaper than the others.

Why? Well, when is comes to a product that I want long lasting value from and will be used over and over again, I am happy to pay a higher price for the guarantee of something a class above the rest.

All too often I have made puchases in the past which appeared to be "great online deals" at a greatly reduced price, when in reality these were shoddy goods which failed to impress, although I have to admit on a basic level did tick one or two of the boxes.

When you are deciding on your price point for your product, bear in mind the list of unticked boxes for your customer.

Yes we all love what appears to be a great deal - free offers, buy one get one free etc etc, however in reality what is free is sometimes pretty useless or doesn't get utilised to its potential and BOGOF deals usually mean we are dabbling in having too much of what we don't need..This latter usually comes in the form of food for many consumers - and the outcome of that is a whole other "obesity" blog

When selling IM products in your chosen niche don't be overwhelmed by the advent of $7 products which should really sell for $47..Or those that sell for $47 instead of $197. Yes we are in recession however people looking for great information, help, advice will pay for excellent content. These same people will request a refund for "over-priced garbage" so the quality has to be there in your product, each and every time.

More suspicion, regarding the quality of content, than sales will come out of "cheap and cheaper deals".

Yes - sometimes they work (sellers building lists etc) but if you are confident you have high quality, durable, relevant and easy to apply products then please believe that people will pay a good price for something they can use and refer to, time and time again.

Be confident in your price and if you feel completely comfortable your product ticks all the boxes for the target audience, stick with it!

Try this yourself, next time you are about to buy a product - destined in its hype to change your life in a matter of days and it only costs $7 or $17, ask yourself this - which boxes is it ticking?

Answer - Box titled "Cheap" - tick

And thats where it ends my friend!

If you don't have a list of tick boxes for purchases and for the product(s) you are selling, even one sitting in your head, CREATE ONE!

If you don't buy my advice, simply check your own computer for piles of documents and products you thought were "great deals" at the time, or what about the junk in the garage - all gathering dust that were great deals or latest cheap fads.

Quality, quality, quality - every time.
