Does A Home Based Affiliate Marketer Really Need A Self-Hosted Website?
There are a number of things a home based Affiliate Marketer needs to start and run an online business. In my opinion it all starts with a self-hosted website. Here is my reasoning.
First and foremost, if you are building your business for the long term and if you have any interest at all in the value and importance of branding, then you will recognize the significance of starting from day one with your own website.
Sure, you can make money online with affiliate websites, that is, websites, landing pages, splash pages, lead capture pages, etc., provided by the affiliate company. But when you use affiliate sites instead of your own, you are doing little to establish your own presence on the Internet when you really should be focusing on establishing your own brand, because branding is very important.
If you care about your image and if you want to build a foundation of recognition and trust for the future, you will agree with the purpose and value of registering your own domain name and hosting your own website.
When you have your own website, everything you do as a home based Affiliate Marketer can be channeled through your website. You can still promote affiliate products, services and programs, but as much as possible you should funnel all of your prospects through your site first before you send them off to affiliate pages. This allows you to track your prospects better, and it establishes in their mind that you are the person referring them to the product or service.
For example, instead of simply advertising an affiliate link in a traffic exchange or in your forum signatures or social site profiles, you should post links to related articles, blog posts, product reviews and the like that are posted on your own website.
Once a prospect is on your site, you will be able to demonstrate to them your knowledge or expertise in your niche or field of interest. You may also be able to get that prospect to sign up for your newsletter or RSS feed. You want to get them into your prospecting funnel and keep them in your prospecting funnel.
Personally, I just think it is smart marketing to have your own website and to make it the hub of all your marketing activity online. If you are not capturing your leads before sending them to affiliate pages, you are missing out on some long-term prospecting opportunities.
Does a home based Affiliate Marketer really need a self-hosted website? Well, you can get by without one, but that’s no way to build your reputation or your brand. In my opinion, a self-hosted website is one of the foundations of Internet success. Every business needs to have their own website, depending on free blogs such as blogger or wordpress will only bring down its reputation and the risk involved in those getting deleted. Its not so costly getting a domain name and a self hosted website.
