How To Achieve Success In Life And Business
If you want to know how to achieve success in life and in business there is one key principle you need to completely understand and apply to everything you do. The principle is this: successful people are made, not born.
Sounds too simple? Well, you’d be surprised how many people say, yeah, yeah, I know that, but then turn around and keep doing the things they’ve always done and keep getting the results they’ve always gotten.
What does it mean, “successful people are made, not born”? What it means is that for most people, success and achievement do not just happen spontaneously. You need to do something. You need to learn and apply proven methods and techniques known to produce success and you need to learn and practice proven skills and habits: in other words, you need an active personal development program.
Again, at this point, some people say, yeah, yeah, I know all that, and then they keep walking down dead-end streets in their lives and their careers.
There are two ways you can create a program of personal development:
First, you can simply read self-improvement books, watch programs and listen to motivational audios on a casual basis as you happen to come across them.
Second, you can accelerate your progress by learning how to achieve success in life from others who have already tested the waters and discovered the preferred paths to follow. You will still make use of motivational and instructional materials, but now your studies will be focused and fine-tuned. Instead of developing skills and talents hit-and-miss, you will immediately identify the specific habits and characteristics that you need for a particular project and you will know without a doubt that if you apply that skill, you will produce the desired results.
We all have our favourite sources of personal development materials. Most of us know the names of the leaders in the field of self-improvement: Brian Tracy, Stephen R. Covey, Anthony Robbins, Zig Ziglar to name a few. I have materials in my personal library from all of these leaders and more. Tracy seems to be taking up the most space on the shelves these days.
If there is one important lesson that I have learned over the years it is that it is much easier and faster to learn a proven skill or technique from somebody who has already been there than it is to blindly chase success and achievement on your own. It takes away the guess work, reduces the frustration and builds your confidence just knowing that the goal can be reached if you follow the recommended steps.
Wiser people than I have already discovered and recorded certain proven principles of success that when applied, always produce results. If you are at all familiar with any of the materials developed by the motivational leaders mentioned above, you will know what I am talking about. It is simply a matter of cause and effect: if you initiate the right cause, the desired effect is sure to follow.
My message to you today is to make a new commitment to step up your own program of personal development. Whoever your preferred guru of self-improvement might be, launch a renewed effort to enhance your skills and get on track to accelerate your success.
