How Positive Thinkers Sell More
Last week I wrote the blog post, Sales Psychology Starts With YOU, about how positive thinkers sell more. We hear so much about the power of positive thinking – I wondered how this could be applied directly to the sales process in Internet Marketing.
To get some insight, I looked to one of my favourite leaders in both sales and personal development, Brian Tracy. Some readers may know that I have a lot of Brian’s materials and that because I appreciate his work so much, I market and sell some of his products. Here are a couple of the main highlights from my blog post, based on Brian’s teaching.
First, the psychology behind the sales process begins with you, the marketer. The better conditioned you are mentally, the more success you will enjoy throughout the marketing and selling process.
You might think that the “positive thinking” angle is outdated or just plain hooey. Here is how it can help you:
When your thoughts are focused on the positive, you feel better, you are happier and you are more energetic and enthusiastic. This becomes outwardly obvious to the people around you and when you interact with them, they respond in kind. If you are making a sales presentation, they are much more open to your suggestions and positive towards your sales close.
On the other hand, when your thoughts are negative, the whole process just described takes a nosedive and you’ll be lucky if your prospect even listens to you, never mind buys anything.
Brian tells us to always keep our mind positive and to replace negative thoughts with positive ones. It often requires a conscious effort on our part to do this. It is an active process that we must continually condition our mind to do.
And that isn’t always easy. Life gets in the way and there are many times when it is much easier to be down and negative. Brian tells us how to deal with this. He says to practice feeling cheerful and optimistic even when we don’t feel that way on the inside.
In my blog post, I suggest forcing yourself to smile and laugh, especially when you are going over your sales pitch and preparing for a presentation. Practice doing it with a smile on your face. Stir up feelings of enthusiasm and positive expectation. It will work wonders for your pitch.
I know how that may sound like just so much positive thinking nonsense ... but it works. Try talking with a big grin on your face and chances are you will feel great doing it.
When you feel great, the people around you can’t help but notice and they typically respond much better to any communication you have with them.
And that is how positive thinkers sell more: their uplifting attitude flows through their spoken or written words and that encourages prospects and customers to be more positive and open.
