Top 5 Things I've learned about Internet Marketing

1. Either play or you stay home. Sure anyone can go online and figure out how to make a few buck. However if your serious about starting a successful business (and making money long term) then you need to act the way a successful business acts. Professional hosting and professional looking web sites are a must. The people that succeed, at one point, decided to take a leap, jump in and just get it done. Sitting back and learning only takes you so far.

2. Build a mailing list. Use a quality list provider like Aweber from the start. I did, and I am glad I did. It's a little expensive when your first starting out, but well worth the frustration it will save you later on. Many people have affiliate links to Aweber, if you use one of them you can get your first month for $1. Then after that it is $19 per month. I did try setting up my own mailing list on my ISP, my own messages to myself ended up in my spam folder. After that I signed up for Aweber.

3. There is only so much research you can do before you have to just do it. Test things is reasonable size batches. That is one of the magical things about the Internet, you can test a promotion for only a few pennies on the dollar compared to other media advertising. It is my opinion that many people read, ponder, study, and never take any real action. Taking action, some action, even if it isn't perfect is essential.

4. Don't wait until it's perfect. Many of us laugh when we see someones sales pitch that has a typo in it or a misspelled word. Yes, I think it is important that your writing sounds good, but not so important that you should let it hold you back. If your only a average or poor writer, get someone to help edit your material. Whatever you do, don't get into the trap of working and re-working your material until you think it is perfect. If you do, you will end up spending a week on a project that should have taking an hour or two.

5. Average is good enough. You don't have to be that special or have supper skills to make it online. Honestly, being average is good enough, you don't need to have a super special product with a million dollar marketing company behind you. Sure there are paid marketing tools that can help you, but the real secret is getting out there and getting stuff done, even if it is only average.
