Sometimes we learn something new and do not even realise it. It might be something small that could affect our future dramatically and we didn't notice. Or it may be something high that we cannot help but see it.

This blog is basically a journal of lessons I have learnt.

Probably not the right niche marketing approach ...

Posted 08-16-2008 at 05:57 AM by jensrsa

but it works for me.

I've never been one for intensive planning and tend to operate on impulse at times - that's how I worked all my life and it's too late to change now, even if I wanted to.

It's often cost me. However, often it worked out as well.

So here's my approach:
  1. Get an idea - something I read, a question someone asked or just a flash of "inspiration"
  2. Do a quick check to see whether there are enough searches done
  3. Find a reasonably good domain name
  4. Register the domain and set up hosting (as I rent a server the hosting cost me nothing - only the domain)
  5. Install Joomla, normally with some favourite components - SOBI2, Jumi, AcaJoom, Xmap, Adsense
  6. Find some related affiliate programs, CB ebooks, etc.
  7. Configure the site and load some basic content, Adsense, affiliate programs
  8. Cross link from my other web sites
  9. Register the site on 40 - 80 search engines and directories
  10. Mention it in my next newsletter
  11. "Forget" about it
  12. Check its stats periodically - when I see it's starting to get traffic I will look how I can fine tune it to make it more effective
The initial process normally takes about 4 - 6 hours.

As I said, this is probably not the recommended approach but it gives me:
  • numerous niches to work with and not put all my effort into one
  • the opportunity to test a niche to see what the potential is
  • as most of my sites are directories, the vehicles to assist my clients in marketing their web sites to niche markets
  • multiple income streams, albeit some are minute at the moment
  • the opportunity to work at my hobby - internet marketing
