Thoughts in Action

Posted 06-03-2011 at 11:07 PM by Jeremy Barker

People that make it big as entrepreneurs are people that put their thoughts into actions. Do they succeed every time with every thought? What do you think, NO! If everyone succeeded we would have self made millionaires around every turn.

I ran across a story of a man by the name of Charles Brace Darrow (1889-1967) who inspired me to keep pushing forward and it will inspire you also.

Charles Brace Darrow was the inventor of the famous board game, Monopoly. Charles lost his job selling heaters during the Great Depression. Darrow played games sitting around with friends and neighbors to pass the time. Evidently during these times of playing private circulating games he had a spark. This spark led to the designing of Monopoly in which he sold to Parker Brothers in 1935. Today, Monopoly is the best selling board game in the world with more than 275 million games being sold worldwide. Monopoly is now available in 111 countries and 43 languages and has many different variations today.

Think about it for a second……

1) If Darrow would have not lost his job selling heaters there is a chance he would have never ventured out and created this game, Monopoly

2) Darrow was a unique person in which he created a board game from playing private circulating games during the Great Depression

3) Darrow had enough and took a thought that he had, no matter what people said or thought, and put it to action.

We see the after effects today. Have you ever played Monopoly? I have!

What makes Darrow different than us? Maybe we have not been put in a situation where it is so bad that we were forced to do something with our lives or die of hunger? Maybe we are just a lazier crowd than they were during those days?

Or….

Maybe there are ideas and thoughts that many of use have daily but for whatever reason we are afraid or nervous of putting them into action. Take your thought and run with it or one day you will think, what if?
