Social Media Marketing Myths and Strategies

I was reading a couple of posts by my online friends and found some ideas that just bugged the snot out of me.
I personally think that everyone has the right to market as they see fit. Some tactics that some people use, work for them, but I sure don't want to do.
Filling out CPA offers to watch bootleg movie trailers comes to mind as being pretty high on the list of things I don't want to be a part of.
My friend wrote a post on his blog about how he thinks social media, especially Twitter should be used by folks who are new to marketing.
I usually don't have such strong reactions to people's ideas, even if I disagree. But there was just something about the way the idea was presented that got to me.
Maybe it was more like it was presented as "This is the way to do it" as opposed to "here is an idea you could use" that bothered me.
I don't know for sure, but I decided I would write a big long post on my site about it. If you want to read it, here is the link:

If you had a thought about such things, please leave a comment here or there.
I might be the only person who has been thinking about this, but I suspect I am not.
Basically, I think marketing is great, and some ideas work better than others.
