How do You Get Blog Comment Going?

I have really been struggling with this on my marketing blog. I run several blogs in different niches, and my marketing blog has been the hardest one to get any feedback on. How do you go about doing it?
Looking at my stats, almost all the comments I receive are spam. This doesn't happen on my niche blogs.
I know looking at my stats that people are reading my blog. I have a 40% bounce rate, average user time is around 15 minutes with multiple page views. But nobody is saying anything. After 3 months I have 6 comments total.
On my relationships blog, I had comments within days of starting it. I have had no problem getting a discussion going. Do marketers take a different path to getting good comments? Or is Akismet killing my relevant comments and marking them as spam? Is there some way to check that? Let me know what you think.
