Most Writers Would Relish Drama In Life

Posted 08-26-2009 at 03:30 PM by joyfulwraps

July and August have been two very rough months for me personally as I struggle to manage two family members with medical crises while staying afloat financially. Try running an online business when you are nursing one family member through two surgeries, 3 emergency room visits and another family member having need of constant monitoring as she has another active ulcerative colitis flare! Both of them are on two different medical diets that include protein powder supplements in special health drinks. I feel like I have been recruited into a life of being wife, mom, full time nurse, dietician and oh yeah the main breadwinner now that "dear husband" is on week 6 of not being able to work. Do I sound like I am complaining?

The words, "being organized", "having patience", "balancing family time with work time" are all being stretched to new limits! Not only did I have to complete 3 wound changes which involved wet/dry packing each day for 2 weeks but dispense medication and take both of them to separate doctor appointments and on some days they both had appointments in different directions and counties! My small car is crying OUCH and MUTINY!

Did my writing business suffer? Unfortunately the answer is yes. Could I have done anything different? Honestly, I do not think so, unless of course I had stock-piled hordes of cash before all this started that could have then been used to hire a nurse, dietician, chauffer and maid. Had there been reserves of cash in my business account I could have outsourced most of my writing and kept my business on track. Sadly what money had been in my bank account rapidly disappeared as huge pharmacy bills were paid and medical supplies were purchased. Special diets require lots of money too.

We all go through trials in life, personal and in business; are we ever well prepared for them to happen? At this point the best I can do is take inventory, remember lessons learned and do my best to replenish my bank account as best I can by making sound business decisions from this point forward.

I am also going to pray that drama stays clear of my life for a good long time. Most writers would relish drama in life, as it is these times that inspire great works of art. Perhaps I too will feel that way once I get some decent sleep .
