If you search for affiliate marketing on Google, and like me, like to look at the suggestions, you'll likely find terms like "is affiliate marketing dead", and "fall of affiliate marketing". In the traditional sense of the 1990s affiliate business that spams links to rank number one on Google, sure, that type of affiliate marketing is dying (and quick). Despite that, a new, evolving brand of affiliate marketing is on the rise, and is likely to become an even larger force in both the online and offline market.
Take for example Amazon; it’s revenue has skyrocketed since its inception in 1995, and from 2004 to 2012 its revenue was just over 61 billion dollars. Much of their success has come from their affiliate program, Amazon Associates, which allows anyone to open their own businesses. Interestingly, 40%, yes forty percent of their revenue came from Amazon Associates. That’s over 24.4 billion dollars last year alone.
But it's not only Amazon, Commission Junction has signed up dozens of huge new companies for it's affiliate programs. In fact affiliate sales have been rising rapidly, but the market is evolving more rapidly then ever, and with the new rise of the Kindle and fiction eBook market is likely the biggest change in the market of the past five years.
Smart affiliates will gear up for the new realities of the changing market, and take advantage of the huge new market and rapid rise of the internet savvy middle classes in developing countries.
