Working on "Plan B"

Posted 08-17-2009 at 11:43 AM by Kelly Verge

Following this post about "Plan B," I've started devoting 2 hours a day to my boring-but-no-brainer sites. I still work on my "Plan A" strategies, but as Keith suggested, I'm working on the ones that will/should have small but continual and residual income.

My brother still works full-time in a non-IM field. He's been doing IM part-time since July 2007 doing nothing but Plan-B stuff. He's worked this way because he only has a couple of hours to work on it.

In truth, today he outsources almost all of his stuff and he just spends the two hours managing the outsourced work.

He's been very successful - mostly due to his continued focus and incremental effort. I think it's also easier to maintain a positive attitude with Plan-B efforts.

When you work full time on a Plan-A, spending weeks if not months on developing and implementing it and it flops, it's easy to "say" that you should learn from your mistakes, dust yourself off, and start over. It's much harder to do it.

With Plan-B sites, your successes might be smaller, but so is the effort as well as the potential lost effort from failures. In fact, even failures will likely carry their own weight (i.e. pay for the domain name or even more) and will show continual revenue, so these sites help keep you motivated.

Today I'm working on two. Neither of these sites will add a huge amount to my income, but a stable of these might just pay the light bill.
