Some Birthday Reflections On My Business

So it was 27 years ago to this day that I popped out into this crazy world. I can honestly say that from as young as I can remember, I knew I was going to be an entrepreneur.
In fact, I remember when I was in elementary school I would use the word 'entrepreneur' all the time. My father recently showed me something I had written when I was really young (judging by the handwriting) and I said I want to be an astronaut or an entrepreneur when I grow up.
Well it came true...here I am, an entrepreneur. I like jumping up and coming back down, so an astronaut wasn't in my cards
There was one piece of advice that my grandfather gave me that has always stuck with me and I credit much of my success to this business philosophy. And my grandfather was as much an entrepreneur as it gets.
He said...Ken, if you want to be a success, follow these two statements...
1. Stay True to Yourself
2. Work harder than your competitor
That's it..these statements have defined my life and business to date. The first, stay true to yourself will ensure a successful life.
The second, work harder than everybody else will ensure a successful entrepreneur.
Now take these statements for their spirit and hopefully they will be as powerful to you as they have been to me.
Don't read into it too much and say that making money requires working smarter and not harder...sure there is some truth to that, but I can tell you that every super successful person I know worked their butts off when they were building their business. It's the people that try and outsmart everybody else and not work at all that normally don't get anywhere.
May we all continue to work hard, stay true to ourselves, provide value, and grow amazingly prosperous businesses.
