The fastest way to establish your online business in China

Posted 10-10-2008 at 09:22 PM by Kerry Finch

A website for your business is an indispensable requirement for international trade. Your domain name and web presence may be a comforting sight to potential clients and buyers. You may wish to hire a web designer to develop your company’s website or you may choose to sign up with a ready-made e-commerce platform like Alibaba.com.

Results of the Netguide 2008 Summary show that business to business (B2B) transactions reached 1.25 trillion yuan in China last year. For 2008 and 2009, analysts predict continuous increases in B2B transactions. Alibaba.com was identified as the leading platform in the B2B e-commerce marketplace.

Alibaba’s success is credited to its business-friendly e-commerce platform which enables a business to build a storefront with ease. E-commerce observers say that a new breed of entrepreneurs is emerging in China. These traders prefer to conduct their businesses in an Internet marketplace such as Alibaba.com. They are known to buy in bulk from Chinese suppliers and to sell the same items at competitive prices to overseas buyers without having to switch websites. Buying and selling are accomplished in one website. Some observers attribute the popularity of Alibaba’s e-commerce platform to the entrepreneurs’ lack of technical knowledge to create their own websites. Another important feature of Alibaba.com is its online payment system known as Alipay. Alipay facilitates payments in various currencies and to various merchants across geographical borders.

For a newcomer in China’s e-commerce, an easy option is to get online in a popular e-commerce marketplace.
