Google has a lot of signals in it's search algorithm used to rank sites. One of which is apparently how many times your website is bookmarked.

When a user bookmarks your website it makes it easier for them to return as repeat traffic. Helping your SEO is an added benefit.

Are you making it easy to bookmark your site?

Here is very simple use JavaScript to put in your website. It reminds people to bookmark the page they are on. A simple link. You do not want to use a pop-up.

If you want to see how this works visit this Vandor Cookie Jar website and look at the bottom of the page. There is a simple reminder for visitors to bookmark the page.

The source code for the web page shows how it is done if you have any questions about how to do this.

Too many are focused on third party websites, such as only asking for a Facebook like, or suggesting social bookmarking options.

Those are also fine to have. But they are not a replacement for a user created bookmark that is always in their web browser no matter what other site they are visiting.
