How to Reduce Article Directory Spam

Here are several steps a client of mine used to drastically reduce the amount of article spam:
1. Ban China IP addresses.
2. Not allow hotmail email accounts.
3. Not allow usernames with numbers in them.
4. Not allow email addresses with numbers in them.
Although it is possible some legitimate writers would not meet these criteria, for the sake of your sanity in dealing with spam these measures will target a significant amount of the automated crap being sent over the web.
