How to Hide URL from the Status Ba2

There is a new technique which, I just coincidentally also saw mentioned elsewhere this week, which can prevent affiliate and other links on a web page from appearing in the status bar of web browsers.

There were a number of scripts created years ago which did so, and many people still refer to a JavaScript mouseover technique for hiding or changing what is seen in the status bar.
None of those scripts still work. The mouseover trick does not work. All modern web browsers created over the past few years disable those methods to prevent phishing scammers.
That is part of what makes this new technique so unique and attractive. While originally intended for another purpose, sometimes you just have to open your eyes and use a little imagination to find additional uses, such as hiding urls in the status bar, that everyone else has missed.
