Hostgator - An Honest Review

Posted 11-06-2009 at 09:57 AM by michaelcloke

It doesn't matter who you speak to with regard to your hosting requirements, the name that keeps coming up again and again is Hostgator.
If it's not the competitive pricing it's the extremely helpful and knowledgeable support staff that many people rave about, so if you are looking for a host that always seems to go that little bit extra then you can always rely on Hostgator.
Hostgator were founded in 2002 and even though that seems a relatively short time ago, in internet years it's a lifetime.
They are constantly given extremely high marks by reviewers of both online review sites and offline magazines and their retention rate of people who initially sign up with them is one of the highest in the hosting business.
They offer different hosting packages which depend on your requirements with the lowest level of entry being a package called the 'Hatchling'
This is the only package in which you are limited to hosting only one domain and currently costs $6.95 per month.
The highest level of package is called the 'Swamp' which costs $14.95 per month. With this package you are able to host unlimited domains, 1000GB of storage and unlimited bandwidth.
All of the packages come with every feature you will ever need to host your websites and it is often recommended that unless you are sure you will only be hosting one website it is worth paying a little bit extra for one of the higher packages.
For the more technical amongst you it should be noted that Hostgator host their sites on Dual Xeon servers which are based in Dallas.
Their data centres boast an uptime of 99.9% and these claims have been backed up by many third party reviews.
For me though, what really puts Hostgator above the rest is the outstanding customer support. When you have completed a support session with one of the support staff you are given the option of rating the support you have been given. I have never failed to give top marks and I can assure you that is very rare for me.
If you do have a problem and you are not satisfied in any way you are able to escalate your concerns right to the very top, there are not many companies who make this procedure as easy and as straightforward as it is with Hostgator.
Cpanel is included in all of the packages as well as a multitude of other extras and I always advise people if they are thinking of moving to Hostgator just to spend a little time researching what is on offer and how it can benefit you.
Perform a quick Google search for Hostgator reviews and I am pretty confident that you will be satisfied with what you find.
You will also quite often find that they have offers to entice you to sign up with them such as the first month for a dollar or a recent incentive on their website was a $50 adword voucher.
Hosting is an extremely competitive industry but Hostgator must be doing something right as they are always the host that everyone talks about in a positive way.
